polyglot puppet theatre

Brief:
Design and development of a website and enews management system for Polyglot Puppets Theatre Company.

Result:
In early 2008 Web Prophets and Polyglot Puppets partnered to develop a truly unique relationship.

Web Prophets has commenced development of a complex CMS that manages all of Polyglot Puppets online needs including:
• Online performances, touring information, information about creative workshops and venue hire
• Creative network area, masterclasses and residency information
• Establishment of an online area for kids to contribute and participate in the creative process

The website is now jam packed full of content and takes advantage of Web 3.0 initiatives including YouTube videos, photo galleries and client logins. In the future this site will develop to create a truly interactive site that will connect and engage a wide audience locally in Australia as well as overseas.

As part of these works Web Prophets has started a complex integration program for Etools Enews Manager, which will allow enewsletter subscribers to select what information they want to receive from Polyglot Puppets. This will mean that Polyglot will create one newsletter, but each subscriber will receive different information depending on what their interests are. For example if you are only interested in Upcoming Performances and Workshops; then that is all the information you will receive in the newsletter delivered to your email account. Through the login on the website you will be able to modify these settings so if you become interested in Industry News down the track, you can select to receive this information too.

The relationship with Polyglot Puppets is in its first year and marks the first steps towards a creative discussion between the two companies; this is actualised through 'Think Big' sessions. These sessions are afternoons where we join forces at the theatre for creative brainstorming. For Web Prophets, this is an amazing opportunity where we can step away from the computer and spend some time thinking about bigger issues, exercise a more lateral problem solving approach while freshening up our creative spirits.

Four of these events are scheduled for 2008; in the first session we created puppets and performed a small play; in the second session we discussed issues to do with cultural development in Cambodia, a country that has suffered from the extermination of a generation of professionals by the Khmer Rouge. This last discussion has spearheaded a larger project which is still under investigation but may include using the website to foster creative development between children in Cambodia and Australia.

This type of relationship provides a strong and highly individual relationship that assists the progress and future development of both organisations. This partnership allows Web Prophets to use our technical expertise for a good cause as well as testing our capabilities in a creative framework that demands that we learn and develop our skill set.

Testimonial:
"Web Prophets partnered with Polyglot Puppet Theatre to create a new website which was dynamic, updatable, customizable, trackable and chock-a-block full of multimedia, colour and whizz bang tricks.   They gave us an all-in-one solution – web design, programming, enews systems, databasing, hosting – with no problems at all.  But what we didn't expect was that Julia, Amber, Ivan, Jim and the Web Prophets team would become genuine collaborators for Polyglot, a part of the team, so that together we create, matching art, commerce and community in the most satisfying way."
