Sacred Heart Mission
Of primary importance to the organisation was the need to create a website which followed the ethics of the organisation as warm & embracing - the heart and soul of St Kilda - but on the other hand not to lose sight that the organisation is primarily there to support members of our community who are incredibly vulnerable.
The project was a challenging one with many needs to be met.
SHM looks after a myriad of people in need; we generally identify them with the dining hall that feeds over 450 homeless people everyday; however the organisation now does so much more with services that include housing for women experiencing crisis in their lives, health services, wellbeing & activities programs, pastoral care, aged care and housing and case management. On top of this SHM is a strong advocate for people in need having completed a service model pilot between 2009 and 2012 that focused on a strategy to end a person's long-term homelessness in a more cost effective way than our current strategies - read Understanding Homelessness on the website for more information.
The site has a multitude of messages needing to be communicated to different audiences; and it all needed to be completed on a tight budget.
The site is the gateway to SHM promoting its Op Shops, Events, Fundraising and Volunteer programs as well as being an information resource centre for case workers, government agencies and prospective sponsors.
The task was made easier by using Drupal AGOV (developed by web developers PreviousNext) as the basis for our web development. This framework (which is now endorsed by the Federal Government as part of GOVCMS); comes pre-packaged with content types all optimised with user accessibility features already implemented - saving hours of development time. Working off this platform allowed us to focus on the customisation elements of the project and cut our costs dramatically.
