Changes to domain name management

3 July 2018

On the 1st July 2018 the .au name space was transferred to a new registry.

The migration involved the transfer of 3.1 million domain names to a new registry and national domain name infrastructure.

auDA the governing body of domain names in Australia believe the change will facilitate .au domain names seeing:

  • faster response times
  • increased resilience
  • increased security

Moving forward this change will mean that, and names will be able to be registered for between one and five years (instead of the usual minimum of 2 years).

Some cost savings are expected to flow through with registrations and renewals - overall Web Prophets customers can expect at least a 10% reduction in renewal costs.
